Alabaster is a city and southern suburb of Birmingham in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 22,619. According to the 2005 U.S. Census estimates, the city had a population of 27,517. [1]

The racial makeup of the city was 87.71% White, 9.95% Black or African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.69% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 1.54% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
